Submerged specializes in scuba diving classes for the Maryland, Virginia, & Washington DC area.

Scuba Classes at Submerged, Inc.

Submerged, Inc. has a fresh approach to teaching scuba classes, and to scuba diving in general. Our classes are competitively priced with other scuba shops in Maryland, DC, and Virginia, but once you consider everything we include in our courses, and especially the increased time you have with your instructor in and out of the water, you will realize that you gain much more by taking a class at Submerged. Our primary training agency is Unified Team Diving (UTD), but we also offer classes through Scuba Diving International (SDI), Technical Diving International (TDI), as well as PADI. We are the only Unified Team Diving (UTD) Training Facility on the East Coast - we are proud to be UTD instructors, and divers who have earned a UTD certification are proud to hold that certification because they know that it represents overcoming a bigger challenge and earning a bigger reward. UTD certified divers are some of the best trained divers in the world, conducting some challenging projects and exploration dives. Once you complete your UTD diver training, you will truly understand why UTD has some of the highest training standards in the industry and that UTD divers are held in such high regard.

We offer recreational scuba classes, technical dive training, overhead courses (wreck, cave, and ice diving), and specialty scuba classes in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC. For our scuba classes at every level, we spend lots of time developing your diving knowledge and understanding. We do not simply review the answers in the book, give you a quiz and assume you suddenly possess a sufficient understanding to allow you to have fun and be safe diving. We find that students who are given more knowledge and who are challenged a bit further during their training are more confident and comfortable diving because they understand what is going on and they know what to do on their dives. Our divers are not "follow me" divers. Beyond knowledge development we spend a lot of time developing your in-water skills and we conduct more training dives in open water than most scuba courses offered elsewhere. We do it all at a competitive price because we want you to be a comfortable, confident, and competent diver at every level you undertake. Equipment

We are as passionate about the scuba equipment we carry as we are about teaching scuba diving classes! We pride ourselves on having scuba equipment in stock, so that when you walk in looking for something, you can walk out with it the same day and not have to place a special order. We believe that equipment should be scalable and be able to grow with you as you gain more experience, and not have to be replaced. In other words, there's no such thing as beginner scuba gear and advanced gear - it's all just dive gear. Recreational divers and technical divers alike can find the scuba equipment they need at Submerged. The staff and owners here actually dive the gear that we carry, and we can help you select the equipment that is most appropriate for you and the type of diving you currently do and aspire to do.

To further support your diving needs, we have an in-house service department to keep your scuba gear working like new for years to come. We offer regulator, BC, dry suit, and cylinder service, and oxygen cleaning services. We do most of our equipment service in-house so that you have your gear back usually in less than a week. As an added bonus, Team Submerged Club members enjoy exclusive savings on gas fills and equipment service. Read more about our equipment philosophy and the scuba equipment we carry...

Community and Dive Events

Diving is more fun when you have fun people to do it with, though, so we put a lot of energy into growing a local diving community of like-minded divers. Submerged offers several opportunities throughout the year to go diving locally, and also on store-sponsored dive trips. Submerged is also special in that the owners and staff actually go diving all the time, too! We go diving outside of teaching classes because we actually love diving! We work hard to ensure that our divers have the support they need to do the type of diving they want to do, whether it's being able to take the next level class, get equipment serviced, or get a gas fill.

Divers can join Team Submerged, our in-house club which comes with several other benefits and discounts, and also facilitates connecting with other club members to go diving. We have also set up a blog as a way for us to convey information to our divers, post updates about classes, events, and trips, and also a place for you to contribute your own comments, ideas, and questions. For more immediate social networking with other Submerged fans, visit our Facbeook page. As you can see, Submerged has several outlets for our dive community! Become a part of the Submerged community by browsing our blog, join us on Facebook, or e-mail us for more information about the Team Submerged Dive Club.

We are excited to now be selling scuba equipment online! This is a new online store, and we are constantly adding products to it, so be sure to check the online store often for new additions.

Our store front is still our pride and joy, and we much prefer if you come by in person so that we can discuss your diving goals and equipment options. However, we understand that sometimes it is more convenient to purchase online, so please feel free to call or e-mail us with any questions you may have. Even though we are now offering online equipment sales, we are still your local dive store, here to help you attain your diving goals.
