Open Water Diver - Learn to Dive

Description

The Open Water Diver Course is the first and most important step in becoming a diver. If you want to really enjoy scuba diving, you need to know what you are doing and be comfortable and confident doing it. Our instructors are passionate about diving, and they really care that you get started right so that you can enjoy diving as much as we do!

With our unique training techniques, your skills at the end of the Open Water Diver Class will be better than many seasoned divers. We have a training process that will enable you to have amazing buoyancy control, effortless propulsion techniques, and complete control over your equipment.

We have two options for your Open Water Diver Course. You can complete the entire course with us from start to finish. We do our open water training at Lake Phoenix (Virginia) from late Spring to early Fall. Another option is doing your class and pool training with us and then finish the final training dives while on vacation.

You will start out in the classroom, so you have some good background knowledge, and can effectively plan your dives. Most of your training, though, will be in the water (pool and open water) practicing and mastering your skills and getting comfortable.

When our students finish up their training, they are so excited to go diving again, whether it's at a local quarry or to an exotic dive destination. We don't have a formal dive club here, but we have a fantastic family of divers in the Submerged community, so when you finish your training, you'll have a ready-made group to dive with you!

Minimum age: 15 (Open Water) / 12 (Jr. Open Water)*

Medical history form required. Physician's approval may be required.

200 yard swim and 10 minute tread/float must be completed.

**Please call to discuss training kids younger than 15. Maturity and physical size of the potential young diver matter. Submerged is not equipped to train small children for scuba.

Course Structure

Part 1: Classroom + Pool sessions

All students start their course in the classroom and the pool. It usually takes 3 half-days to finish. Once you have completed these components you will be ready to move forward with your final open water training dives.

Class and Pool Instruction - $495

What's included:

Scuba gear use (no rental fees)
Pool admission

Additional fee:

Student online course materials for home study - $160
Personal gear: mask, fins, boots, snorkel - available in the shop for purchase
Additional pool training sessions are $99 each including gear and admission

part 2: Open Water dives

Part 1: Classroom + Pool sessions

4 Open Water dives are needed to finish the whole course. Students will demonstrate the dive skills learned in the pool, and show their ability in executing dive plan in openwater.

Final Open Water Training Dives - $250

What's included:

4 training dives (small class, 4 students max)
Scuba gear (no rental fee for gear)

Additional fees:

Admission to Lake Phoenix - $33/day, 2 days required
Travel expenses/ accommodation for overnight stay at or near Lake Phoenix (camping area is available)
Air fills at Lake Phoenix

If you would like to complete your final training dives while on your own vacation, you can do that! We will issue you a "referral" and you can complete your training dives at any SSI Dive Center anywhere in the world. It usually takes 2 half-days to finish 4 open water training dives.
